With spring fast approaching its time to start thinking about treating our loved ones this Mother’s Day. After all there’s no greater friend or support than a mother.
The origin of Mother’s Day, dates to the ancient Greeks when they held an annual spring festival dedicated to the maternal goddess Rhea, mother of the gods. Today in the UK we celebrate Mothering Sunday on the fourth day of lent - the Christian festival leading up to Easter.
In ancient Greece celebrations lasted for several days, and included games, parades, and masquerades. Nowadays we still celebrate but in different ways, such as a nice pub roast dinner or a family walk.
